Adrienne Momi announces the launch of her new illustrated children’s book The Amazing Adventures of Radish Toe. Illustrated by Momi’s two-sided oil monoprints on shaped handmade paper, the book features a poem like story about a monkey named Radish Toe.
The story, a loose retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel, is imbued with mythic content appealing to both children and adults with a youthful, playful attitude. Readers follow the adventures of the loveable monkey Radish Toe as she is kidnapped from her family by a devious snake until being saved by a brave loyal giraffe. The story features talking animals, exotic settings, impossible situations, and beautifully descriptive language while communicating the importance of friendships and how right-mindedness can prevail over misfortune. Commenting on the relevance and content of the book, Momi remarked that the books archetypal themes are “as valid today as at any historical time.”
Adding to the book are Momi’s beautiful illustrations. Composed of oil monoprints on shaped handmade paper each illustration lovingly brings to life the characters jungles and islands of Radish Toe's world. Momi has exhibited work nationally and internationally as a professional printmaker, bookbinder, painter and hand paper maker. She brings these same skills to create the space and mood for the tale of The Amazing Adventures of Radish Toe.
